Donan Engineering Damage Investigation Services Review from Stuart, Florida

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have hail damage to my house especially to my roof. My Insurance company hired donan engineering to come out inspect my roof even know their own adjuster had inspected it a week before and said I had hail damage.

Donan engineering wrote up their own report and told my insurance company that I didn't have any hail damage. Even know 30+ homes in my neighborhood got the roost replaced because of hail damage my neighbor across the street and my neighbor next-door both that hill damage both got roofs replaced on the street over from me the same homeowner had the same insurance company and field adjuster and just adjuster two months earlier before my claim got his roof replaced because of hail damaged now because of Donan engineering mind Insuranse company denied my claim and now I'm stuck with the damage to roof because of hail and gutters screens and outside AC unit

Just because hail struck your roof doesn't mean you have damage.

If they (carrier) decided to hire an expert to review their adjusters findings there isn't anything wrong with that.

You can always do as Gary suggest and pay some public adjuster 10% or more of your claim to do what you can do yourself!

Like what?

Guest

You're not stuck in Florida. Hire a public adjuster and they will get you paid fully.

Thats what we do, and in Florida, you can reopen a property cliam up to five years after the date of loss occurred.

I get them overturned every day. Gary 888884****

You can hire your own independent adjuster and dispute your insurance carrieers denial

How did you do that? I have had two contractors come to my home on two separate occasions to prove to my insurance company that the water damage in our house was due to something other than two back to back hail storms.

Once while their adjuster was present and they still say the water damage was Not due to the hole in the roof or a completely hauled out window and extensive hail damage to the entire roof. It uprooted my friend's neighbours tree and threw it across their fence and broke it down. Two bad storms back to back and they still refuse to pay for my roof. Now they have hired Financial Engineering to come and inspect the damage.

But I have met my obligations as to what my policy requires and told them I thought after 2 trips from Their adjuster and three from my own that an engineer was overkill. They paid a fraction of what it will take to fix the damage and it has now been over a year. I can't rip off my roof which they tried to get me to do, telling me they would get me 'supplemental funds' and then not be able to finish it because they never intended to get me any more money. And the guy who was trying to get them to mysteriously disappeared.

No longer works there. I reported them the the INSURANCE BOARD, but that takes 90 to 120 days.

Donan engineering the mouse in Erie insurance's pocket

Erie insurance denied hail damage to our roof and I argued only to have Erie send out a "engineer" from Donan (what a Joke) this guy came out only to utter the exact same words as the Erie adjustor. I had 3 other contractors take a look at the roof and said it was definite hail damage, but as we all know Erie don't pay out for roofs.

Erie ins. pays the bill for Donan and to expect them to say anything different would be insane. This Donan company are no more engineers than I am.

They just lack common sense. If anybody expects anything different they are only kidding themselves.

What professional certification do these roofers have? Does the roofing have hail damage (which is a defined term) or was it just struck from hail?

Just because you have some granule loss doesn't mean the roofing is damaged! Granule loss is part of the normal wear and tear of the roof to begin with....you'd be better trying to argue the life span was perhaps diminished as the loss of granules MAY cause it to wear out pre-maturely.

I am surprised on a daily basis at the number of people that never ask to see my business license, certification or even ask if I have insurance to cover liability and workers compensation....

Yeah its your JOB when you employ any contractor to check for this stuff so you know you dealing with an expert to begin with!

Hot tub diagnosis from storm damage

Our insurance company uses this company to confirm storm damage is what happened to our hot tub. They took pictures, tested nothing and submitted stating it stopped due to wear and tear. He seen water stains and some wood inside having damage. Its a water tub, did I mention that. Seriously its going to have water stains and not to mention it sits outside unprotected from Michigan weather. The sad thing is our insurance company first chose to deny our claim for this result. Now after we paid to have further investigations done ourselves and submitted them they now are sending another engineer out. How can you take on a job you have no knowledge of. I would not ask a vet to diagnose my car. Shame on them and our homeowners that i will not mention a name of.

So your tub is sitting outside in the weather and you don't think it sustains wear/tear on a daily basis which may have resulted in the problem you encountered?

You do realize most things just wear out at some point!

Especially those that sit outside everyday!

Donan Engineering/Hired gun for Frankenmuth Insurance

When in doubt, hire a liar! Donan was hired by Frankenmuth Insurance to put a spin on a claim they could not decide themselves.

Terence A. Weigel P.E. was sent to investigate the claim. Terence called my home saying he could not find my address or street.

That's because he was 85 mi. west of my home and took an additional 3hrs. to get there when it should have been 1.5 hrs. max.

Terence had to come out twice because he didn't look at what he should have in the first place, refused to look at the blue prints of the home after telling me the porch was added at a later date then the home's original construction and repeatedly called my home well after business hours to "help him do his job" and he would ask me the same questions I already answered. The claim was denied as they used his "perfect storm" excuse that my roof only leaked under"unique combination of rain intensity, wind speed, and wind direction". In my opinion, this old man demonstrated the characteristics of someone with Dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

I could care less about his credentials. Mohammed Ali was the greatest at one time too, but look at him now.

It's obvious that you either work for and/or are related to Donan the realm of thieves. I am a public adjuster from New York, I have never ever met Donan prior to the meeting I just attended with one of their henchman engineers.

I say this. You are right that people should not leave nasty comments regarding Donan, and/or the services they preform. Do not waste your time leaving message that sink to their level. Instead take affirmative action, and make a formal complaint to the proper authority that licenses these people, there is a code of ethics that these engineers must abide by.

And considering that Donan works primarily for insurance companies, it clear as the day is long that their financial stability depends on work for these rouge insurance companies. One of the most import code of ethics is that the engineer must look out for the public's best interest, regardless of who their client is. And this company from what I experienced has broken several rules of the code of ethics. These engineers are insurance company hit men.

There is only one reason why they are placed on the loss. I would love to visit their offices and review their files. I am of the opinion that I bet not one of their reports are insured friendly. Instead they are asked by the carrier to cost contain the loss, and or makes relative statements that would allow the insurance carrier the right to not pay legit claims.

All you have to do is Google how do you file a complaint against these engineers, it's quite simple, and I bet if all the insured's that have complained here, can instead have them investigated. And every complaint made means the more they get investigated, which will lead to fines, probation, or their license revoked. I can only hope that one of these self serving engineers has their home burn to the ground, and they get the same treatment from their carriers engineers. I bet you then they would change their tune.

These are not honest people file formal complaints, that's how you hurt the lying cheating frauds. You should be ashamed to even come on the blog and dare to write some BS that says Donan is not a hire gun. Shame on you!!! for defending these people who are hurting the public at large.

Remember people file formal complaints it works!!!

I find it interesting that you state that engineers are "insurance company hit men" when public adjusters have the reputation of overing the claims that they inspect. You take a % of the insurance settlement which indicates you are paid more for the higher estimate that you write.

So in some (or all) cases the insured has to pay out of their pocket for their repairs. If you could not guess I am a staff adjuster and have used Donan for an opinion on files when we have a question or dispute. They have come back supporting our position and also disagreeing with our assessment.

The rest of your comments about frauds is the true BS and is laughable given your profession.

I am a public adjuster from Connecticut and you are simply an ***. Public adjusting became a profession and they are licensed by state insurance departments because of the history of large scale underpayment on claims by insurance companies.

It isn't just a coincidence that my company's average recovery is right around 50% more than what is initially offered (so if the insurance company offers $100,000, ON AVERAGE we will settle at $150,000).

That is a statistic based off of the near 1000 claims I have handled.

Furthermore MSNBC did a special on engineers writing fraudulent reports for insurance companies after hurricane Katrina, so this is not a witch hunt there is actual evidence behind engineering firms corruption when working on behalf of insurance carriers.

It is common knowledge that insurance companies do everything in their power to collect the most premiums and pay out as little as possible and you are helping them accomplish it by being a staff adjusting, overworked, brainwashed minion. I prefer to work for the consumer exclusively, and when I secure them a much higher settlement, they let me know how useful my services were to them.

The fact that you admit that your average recovery is around 50% says a lot about the PA profession in general.

And as was stated earlier, you guys take a % from the homeowner whether or not their home is repaired to pre-loss condition or not. Back up loss policy limit of $10,000.00 and $20k in damage, how much do you take then? You take a percentage and the home owner is left with less than his policy limit. Period.

Did anyone ever explain that to the home owner? I think not.

The home owner has every right to hire their own engineer to get a second opinion. No one seems to mention that the insurance company is paying the bill when sending an engineer out there to determine loss issues. We all in this industry know there are 'good and bad' in every facet.

Bad does not always mean taking advantage of someone either. There are mistakes made in every area when humans are involved and sometimes training comes into play.

I will say that i prefer certain engineering firms depending on their professionalism, timeliness, whether cost effective and their availability and ability to get the job done quickly. The outcome of the report has no bearing on whether that firm is chosen the next time around.

are you related to or do you work for them or does someone in your family. Some things are obvious and some things are

uncertain, an insured individual should not have to sue his insurance co to have a claim paid.

Guest

Good for you! Please don't comment on something you know nothing about. You probably work for Donan.

21 Complaints from pissed off customers that didn't get their whole roof replaced for a few granules missing from a couple of shingle is a nothing burger compare to how many claims that all forensic engineering firms process in a year. This is a cosmetic issue and not a license to get your roof replaced because your neighbor's insurance company agree to pay a new roof to avoid the hassle of the consumer complaints.

Hire your own roofing inspector and take them to court to dispute their findings.

Hire a Public adjuster who will fight for you, because that is how they make their living and leave you with no money to complete your roof. End of story!

Donan's lead engineer, Matthew D. Pritzl, used cheesy internet sources like wunderground.com to determine that wind did not cause our barn to collapse.

Our small-scale organic dairy farm was destroyed because of Donan Engineering's sloppiness. Matthew D.

Pritzl, the lead engineer, used two internet sources to determine that wind did not cause our barn to collapse. No kidding. It was the extra 48,000 pounds of shingles the crooked contractor put on the roof instead of taking the old ones off. The extra weight caused our barn to collapse.

We have filed a suit. We need witnesses. The case in: Taylor County case no. 13CV90.

Wayne and Jerri Cook v. Donan Engineering, Matthew Pritzl, and Mutual of Wausau.

If you can be a witness for us. Please contact Jerri Cook at (715) 257-**** or via email jerri.l.cook@***.com

So you agree the wind didn't cause the roof to collapse but the weight of another layer of shingles on the roof did? Hopefully opposing counsel doesn't read your post because you just proved their case!

Unless of course you filed suit against the roofer for their negligent work as the wind obviously wasn't the "sole" cause of the damage...

Guest

So, aren't you agreeing with him? Why is this a complaint if you are arguing that he was correct?

Screwed, blued and tattooed

I am in the same situation as the other poster. State Auto copped an attitude.

Adjuster never intended to help me, just out to blame roofer. Three different companies told me I had storm damage and this joker finds none. Insurance company ordered an inspection from Donan. Donan claims there is no storm damage.

They are definitley in cahoots with State Auto.

Noone seems to care about the homeowner. I will be dropping State Auto as soon as I get settled into my new home and discussing this entire event with an attorney.I would love to sue these bastards!

If Everette Lenhart, P.E. Texas license # 115834 wrote your Donan Engineering claim denial report, look out.

I have seen first hand the bias Everette uses in his reports to deny claims.

Copy and paste to build a claim denial report.

Put forensic engineer stamp on biased report.

Get paid for opinion.

Claim denied.

Thanks Everette Lenhart.

Placing your trust in roofing contractors over engineering degrees is not a wise placement of ones trust. Truly, who benefits from your roof being replaced?

The homeowner and roofing contractor (always an honest bunch when combined together). One might be shocked to hear that contractors seem to always find damage when trying to sell a roof replacement. I would not have a job if these "jokers" told the truth. The fact you had three of them tell you doesn't mean anything other than they wanted you to like them, file a claim, hope for the best, use them in the future.

See it every day. Roofers are not damage experts like... say an adjuster....or engineer....

Going with the pros on this one. Let them stick to shingle colors and installation.

Were you given a copy of the Donan report? Would be interesting to know if the report was accurate.

You got it! I worked for SA on a storm and they were using Donan as their "expert" engineers.

Donan engineers would write up these fictitious reports citing some made up phenomenon to avoid payments. Worst company I have ever seen in my 23yr career.

Donan Engineering--Works for the Insurance Company

I had hail damage to my house, my insurance company sent out Donan Engineering Co. They said I didn't have damage, took pictures so far away you could barly tell it was my house. My four different contractors have told me that I have damage. But because of the report from Donan my insurance is not paying for replacement of my roof. I later find out that Donan works with the insurance company to not pay out claims. How is this legal? I have contacted my attorney to see if I can take any action. Oh and ya my insurance company has since then dropped me because of the claim. Thanks Donan

You aren't serious? YES they work for the Insurance Company as that's who paid them to provide them with an independent opinion of whatever your issue is.

If you disagree with them then hire your own engineer to dispute the claim.

It's your responsibility under your policy to "prove" your claim!

Insurance companies process thousands of claims a day. You really think someone has time to pull yours out and figure out a way not to pay you?

Sorry but no one has that kind of time.

Their routinely hire outside adjusters, engineers and other experts to help them gather the facts that they need to pay or deny a claim.

If you feel your claim was handled improperly then hire counsel and they will engage a consulting engineer or licensed contractor or other expert if necessary to help you resolve your issue.
